I’m planning on sailing around the world. Has anyone ever done this and if so, could you give me some advice?

What is the best kind of boat for sailing around the world?
I was planning on setting off from Jacksonville, Florida and sailing southeast around the Cape of Good Hope, then northeast through the Torres Strait between Papua New Guina and Australia. Then, I would go northeast through the Panama Canal, up through the Caribbean Sea, and ending in Jacksonville. Is that a good route?
