All About Important Boat Parts

Boat parts can be purchased either online or local boating supply stores. Some boat supplies and accessories should always be bought new, while others can be bought used. The most important boat parts—steering wheel, batteries, boat propellers, navigational systems, electrical systems, etc., are what keeps your boat going, so you should invest most of your money on them.

Other necessary boat parts include safety items such as first aid kits, lights, ladders, life jackets, etc. are required by law to be on all boats, so you need to make sure you invest in buying them. Make sure you buy the newest, upgraded safety boat equipment that you can find. You need to make sure that you have extra batteries for all of them, and extra equipment to measure the life of your batteries.

Having a GPS system installed onboard can literally save your life. It’s always a good idea to have communication electronics onboard just in case you meet trouble. You can keep up with all the other boaters 24/7, and you never know when they may warn you about something that they have seen or experienced. You can alert the Coast Guard if misfortune ever arises for you and/or for your fellow boaters.

Some boating equipment isn’t necessary or all that important, but boaters always love having them on board anyway. I’m talking about things like TV, music radios, DVD players, fishing gear, water skis, and more. Many people prefer to spend as much time as possible out on the water, and having entertainment supplies installed onboard is a must-have for them. Ship-to-shore powerl ines help make this possible. Sometimes, if you’re not too far out, you may be able to pick up wi-fi Internet access. Marine electronics make it possible to access the Internet 5 miles off shore!

i have a boat that the steering wheel doesnt turn the motor can anyone tell how to fix it its a johnson 50?

i cant turn my steering wheel how can i fix it so it turn
it has a red cable going to the steering wheel idk what it is use for

Most of the time the red cable freezes up. There can also be problems at the motor end, so first disconnect the motor from the cable. Then try turning the motor from side to side. If it turns, then try the steering wheel. If you still can’t turn it, loosen and disconnect the red cable from the gear box part of the helm. If you check the red cable it will have numbers stamped into it, giving it’s length. like 15 ft. Check with your local boat dealer and ask for a replacement, which is easy to install. Good Luck1
