How to get a job on Deep Sea Charter Boat?

I’m 18 and still in high school in New England and started fishing about two years ago (just starting to get good now) and would love to make a career out of it. Does anyone know how I would go about getting a job as I guess a deckhand on a Florida Charter Boat, for example? I’ve dreamed about taking tourists out everyday to try and land some salt water fish for a while now so I’d love to make it a reality. Thanks!

From my experience, if someone really wanted to deckhand on a boat. Best thing to do was hang around the docks before the boats leave for the day and after they come back in the evening. Get to know a few of the captains and talk to them. Make sure they know your interested in deckhanding for them. Make yourself look presentable, and ask them if they need any help. Also be sure that they know you want to learn more about it all. Most charter captains are more than happy to teach what they know to someone willing to learn. And be willing to put in some hardwork and you’ll be on a boat in no time.
If you at the dock in the mornings before the boats leave, eventually you’ll get a chance to go when someone doesn’t show up to work on the boat. It happens all the time, and is the quickest way to get on a boat and show a captain that your willing to learn and want to work.
