Advice for buying a Boat Kit?

I’ve always loved boats and the sea so I decided to make my own small sailboat. I obviously need a kit and I found a website called glen-l and found this kit for a small sail dinghy and is recommended for beginners (http://www.glen-l.com/designs/sailboat/8ball.html). It adds up to about 7
$700 for the kit and parts and sail. Since I don’t know what I’m doing, has anybody made there own boat with a kit? Is glen-l a good kit company? Are there better kits for less? I’d like to keep it a small sailboat and under $1,000 since I’m new at this. I don’t want to just jump and buy this kit before asking someone else and I don’t know any boaters so I thought I’d ask yahoo! Thanks again in advance for any advice!

glen l is a good site and many small boats have been built using the plans. one other option is to look at the puddle duck racer design, it is a very simple to build small sailboat. your can go to the pd racer site to learn more about this sailboat
