Lake Huron Michigan Coast: Lighthouses and many surprises

Planning a trip to U.S. 23 along the coast of the index of Michigan. Take your time to explore small towns on the road. First stop in Sandstone. Go to the marina and campground. From there you can go on a fishing trip and perch in Lake Huron at least in Saginaw Bay. This includes tackle, license, bait, etc.

The next city on the map is of alabaster, a small town on the main road. The houses are mostly on the coast. Alabaster is a house in the U.S. gypsum quarry. It has been banned visitors. The reason for the name of the city in 1893, the British Exhibition held in Chicago, IL. The fair is open from the city of alabaster, because of the outdoors white (illuminated by night with electricity). The distribution, which was used to stain white buildings, from a career in Michigan. Thus, the name for the alabaster box of career.

Up or down the road Tawas City is a song, another tourist town. This is much larger than Gres and offers many opportunities for fishing, boating, etc. Tawas Point State Park has a lighthouse dating from the 1860 operation. From the point can be seen on Lake Huron and Tawas Bay in the west.

Northwestern Tawas City about 12 miles is a memorial to the lumbermen of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) to the time of the Depression of the 1930s. This function location, overlooking the Au Sable River, which was a great stream of wood in those days. The region is among the Huron National Forest. The monument a visitor center with exhibits depicting the life of loggers. This is well worth the side.

Follow the road to the river, aptly named River Sable, in Oscoda. An interesting detail is that the houses are built along the shore of Lake Huron, all facing the lake and is a little off the road. Because everything seems De Similarly, the owners have found interesting names and signs of their homes.

Head north to Harrisville and Sturgeon Point Lighthouse. Built 1870, the residence of the lighthouse is open to the public. The lighthouse itself is off limits because of the possibility of vandalism. The house next to a lighthouse keeper the lighthouse itself. This is one of the two floors and is spacious enough. Living in the desert was very difficult at that time. About fifty meters from the caretaker's house is a house of a classroom. This was used until 1942 and is open to the public.

Travel to millions, some forty miles west Harrisville along the M72. From the coastal plain of Lake Huron, drive through the hills of central Michigan. For visitors to the region the local Catholic parish, Our Lady of the Woods, has built a grotto dedicated to various Marian shrines (Fatima, Lourdes, etc..)

Mio has also a large Amish community. A bulk food store is about three miles north of town to the west of the road about a mile Caldera. Amish farms are beautiful. Seeing a young man driving a team of four horses matched in the field with his father packed stacking hay in the trailer is completely doing a show.
