Some..Please help me..I just bought a Canoe?

I bought a Pelican Dakota about a week ago.. I have been on Pelican’s website looking for this canoe…But its like it doesnt exist! They dont have it on the website….But there is a canoe that other places sale from pelican and it is called the 15.5…..It has the SAME specifications as my Dakota including design……. I dont understand what is up with this..I bought it brand new from Academy Sports and Outdoors….. Its made of Ram-X…please help..What is this boat? and why cant I find any reveiws and info on it??

I don’t get what you’re stressing about. Why do you need to find a website with a spec on the canoe? You already bought the thing, right? So put it in the water and paddle it and stop obsessing.

I’d bet money that the reason you can’t find info on it is that it was probably made under that model name strictly for Academy — a lot of sporting goods manufacturers will do that with their low-end products so people can’t price shop them. In other words, it is probably the same boat as the 15.5 , just with a different label so you’ll be confused and not realize that you might have spent more for that same boat than you could have elsewhere. They will also periodically change the name of cheap models so people don’t catch on to the poor reviews that they get from users and not buy them any more.

I worked in the sporting goods business so I know quite well how these marketing methods works

I’m not saying that it’s a junk boat, but RamX is a low-end material for canoes so don’t plan on bashing this boat up a lot. It’s flimsy stuff — you get what you pay for in any water craft. Here are some of the reviews of Pelican canoes of this line.

A few people like them but you don’t often see people rate boats 1 of 10 on paddling.net so this doesn’t seem like all that great a product. Can you return it? Get a Coleman or an Old Town instead if you want a reliable cheap canoe.
